Description of Holiday House
One of the larger properties on this complex, Icarus occupies a corner position with gardens on 3 sides, 2 patios, & a balcony to the main bedroom; it is one of the few with its own private roof terrrace for all day long sunbathing. Well-equipped spacious modern house. Free air-conditioning/heating. Dishwasher, washing machine, full cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer. Separate downstairs shower room and W.C. in addition to main bathroom.
Our house is spacious, with luxury features such as marble staircases, granite worktops in the kitchen and a marble surround to the bathroom basin. Both the main bathroom and the downstairs shower room have powerful showers with solar-heated water. The separate kitchen makes self-catering easy with its full-size cooker and extractor hood, microwave, toaster and dishwasher. There's also a washing machine, iron and ironing board. If you have the time why not spend the whole winter in Cyprus; we offer very favourable rates for longer term rentals.
Golf Facilities
There are three golf courses within easy reach of Paphos. The Tsada Golf Club is about 20 minutes drive away from Paphos and is set in the grounds of a 12th century monastery which lies in a gentle picturesque valley, 550m above sea level. Created by Donald Steel, this is an 18 hole par 72, 6208m course designed in two loops of nine. It offers superb variety as no two holes are the same and is suitable for players of all abilities. There are also good golf courses at Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley both of which are within a 30 minute drive from Paphos.
Skiing Facilities
You can ski in the Troodos mountains from about January to March. The skiing area is about an hour and a half's drive away. You can rent everything you need there. The skiing area is not extensive and I would suggest it as an alternative activity for a day out rather than a whole week's skiing holiday.
Beaches / Coast
There are plenty of beaches in Paphos region, many of which are Blue Flag beaches. Try the Municipal sandy beach in Kato Paphos, where youŽll find plenty of watersports on offer - parasailing, banana boats, ringoes, water skiing, pedal boats, speed boats, diving, snorkelling, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, sailing, jetskis, boat hire, deep sea fishing, windsurfing and various boat trips. Explore the area to the West of Icarus House for some quieter beaches. For nature lovers drive up to Lara beach (in the Akamas region) where the turtles lay their eggs; a beautiful beach, but donŽt expect sunbeds and umbrellas here. For a change take the bus to Coral Bay - plenty of facilities here, sunbeds, watersports, restaurants etc. If you have hired a car, Polis and Latchi are not too far away to the north, and the Baths of Aphrodite are in this area too. Alternatively head east towards Aphrodite's rock, stopping off en route at any of the beaches that take your fancy.
Further Details
A holiday in Icarus House is suitable for all age ranges. You can do as much or as little as you like. It is the ideal location for lazing by the pool, with perhaps a stroll down to the bars and restaurants in the evening. There must be literally hundreds of restaurants and bars in Paphos, to suit every taste and budget. Alternatively you can pack your days with activities and excursions. You can easily take a trip up to Coral Bay or to the Waterpark on local buses, or various tour operators will be pleased to arrange all sorts of outings for you. Activities in and around the Paphos area - apart from the watersports and golf mentioned above, include horse-riding, karting, tennis, fresh water fishing, walking and cycling. For a change you can go on a mini-cruise - perhaps to Rhodes or Egypt - even a day trip by air to see the Pyramids.
Paphos is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and Cyprus has a wealth of archaelogical sites, ruins, churches & monasteries.
Location of Holiday House
Transfer time by taxi from Paphos airport is less than half an hour. If you prefer to hire a car we'll give you directions to the house. Icarus House is situated in a mainly residential area. Car hire is not essential, as there are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops within about a 10 minute walk, and if you continue walking for a few more minutes you will enter the main tourist area of Kato Paphos with its multitude of eating and drinking places, shops and historical sites. From Icarus House to the beach takes just a few minutes by car, or about twenty minutes walking. The house is also within walking distance of Upper Paphos - this is the older part of town which has a market every day (except Sundays) catering for both locals and tourists and selling a range of items from fruit and vegetables to artwork and souvenirs. Near the market there are a number of reasonably priced cafes; you will also find museums, shops and banks nearby.
