Description of Holiday Townhouse
This 2 bedroomed town house is located on a quite street just off the main street of the village and has recently been renovated. It has the traditional vaulted ceilings and marble tiled flooring and has been decorated in typical Abruzzo style.
The house is located in the heart of the thriving agricultural village of Torino di Sangro, within a stones throw from local amenities and within 15 minutes of the larger towns of Lanciano to the North and Vasto to the South and half an hour from the Majelleta National Park. The area is a wine and olive-producing region with a number of local cantinas selling wine and olive oil from the tap. The local red wine Montepulciano and local white Trebbiano are extremely palatable at 80cents/litre!
Torino di Sangro is well located for beautiful beaches and the mountains of Abruzzo. The nearest beach is the nicest sandy beach in the area "le morge" and the nearest ski resort Passo Lanciano is an hour away.
The house has one double bedroom with a king size bed and a twin bedroom. The living room has a comfortable king size bed/settee. The shower room is downstairs and again has the characteristic vaulted ceilings. There is a balcony with views over the vineyards and olive groves in the valley to the sea and a patio at the front of the house for outside dining.
The house is well equipped and offers good quality linen and towels. Windows have shutters to keep the house cool in summer and central heating for winter.
Fly from London Stansted with Ryanair to Pescara or fly to Rome from many regional airports with Ryanair, Easyjet or Jet2.com and enjoy the spectacular 2-hour drive over the mountains from Lazio to Abruzzo to enjoy sun & sea from April to October and snow pursuits from November to March.
It is entirely possible in some months of the year to ski in the morning and swim in the sea in the afternoon although I am yet to meet anybody who has actually done it. Maybe you will be the first in which case I'll get you a badge!
Beaches / Coast
The Adriatic coast runs the length of Abruzzo from Alba Adriatica in the North to Vasto in the South. The 45km coastline from Ortona to Vasto known as the "Trabocchi Coast" due to the occurrence of strange wooden fishing piers which use nets, ropes and winches to fish the shallow waters. The beaches all along the coast have their own characters. There are beautiful sandy beaches, the best of which is le morge, which is the nearest beach to Torino di Sangro. Casalbordino, San Vito and Vasto also have great beaches with lots going on in the summer months of July & August. In fact the place transforms in July & August and all life transfers to the beaches. All along the coast there are a miriad of specialist fish restaurants. I was never a fish lover until I came to Abruzzo, but the way they prepare and cook the fish here has made me a convert. We have many recommendations for the best value and quality restaurants I have come across. Pizza, Pasta & meat are just as well represented here.
Special Interest
We arrange a number of specialist holidays to cover a range of interests. Each of these interests are fully covered in our welcome book.
Cyling - This year the Giro d'Italia cycling race is in Abruzzo for 3 days and we are organising a cycling interest holiday during the week starting Saturday May 14th, this includes 2 days following the race and 5 days of various guided itineraries around Abruzzo. We provide a pick up and drop off from the airport, local guide, back-up facilities and accomodation at one of our houses.
Hiking - We provide a pick-up and drop-off service, a local guide, accomodation and transport to the start of the hikes.
Other specialist holidays are arranged for Cookery and Archaeology.
Further Details
The house is less than 100 metres from the local Pizzeria/Restaurant and bar which serves fantastic Pizzas. The supermarket is 200 metres up the road and the local petrol station is just down the road, this too has a bar and serves snacks. In the village there are a number of bars, 2 restaurants, a bank with cash point, a number of shops and a pharmacy. There is a bus service which goes to Casalbordino and Lanciano. The train station is by the coast and serves Vasto and Pescara.
Lanciano has a lot of restaurants, a number of shopping centres, a bowling alley and cinema. Vasto has a large water park which is open from June to October and numerous bars, restaurants, hotels and shops. All the surrounding villages have restaurants to try. In the summer months there is a train which goes into the National Park and there is a boat to the island of Tremeti. If you fancy a trip to Rome there is a train from Pescara or a bus from Lanciano. By car it takes 2 hours to the Rome ring road (GRA).
Location of Holiday Townhouse
The property is located in the village of Torino di Sangro in the Chieti region of Abruzzo. The village and its surrounding area is a thriving agricultural community the main crops being Olives and Wine but also an amazing range of crops are grown here including figs, tobacco, melons, tomatoes, herbs, potatoes, onions, nuts and so on. Also the whole area is abundant in fish restaurants and good meat restaurants serving lamb, pork, beef, rabbit, chicken and boar.
Directions to Holiday Townhouse
The nearest airport is that of Pescara and the transfer time is about 45 minutes. Pescara airport is a joy. You walk off the plane straight through customs and into the baggage claim (one belt only) and straight out to the car hire. The whole place is totally relaxed. You can come straight of the plane and go over to Auchan to stock up with everything you will need for your visit.
Ryanair fly from Stansted to Pescara and the journey takes about 2 and a half hours.
If you are travelling from the North of England you may prefer to travel from Liverpool to Rome Ciampino with Ryanair or with one of the other carriers from Manchester (Jet2.com) or from other regional airports with Easyjet. Either way there is a brilliant 2 and a half hour journey from Rome to Torino di Sangro. This is a very straightforward route which we will send you when you book. I much prefer driving from Rome than driving to Stansted. Other options are available so let us know where you are coming from and we will
