Casa Portagioia is a small estate in Castiglion Fiorentino near Cortona with 5 independent guest bedrooms – all with luxury bathrooms and 2 apartments which can accommodate 2 – 4 guests. Offering excellent privacy, a heated swimming pool and gorgeous scenery, it is perfect for a peaceful break in the countryside or to explore the delights of Tuscany and Umbria.

More important is the fact that we know how much planning goes into your holiday and that there is too long a space between vacations. Here at Casa Portagioia, relaxation is the keyword. We look after our guests every need, from a leisurely breakfast overlooking olive groves, helping arrange your day trips to the fabulous sites of Tuscany and Umbria - and when just a lazy day is planned, our heated pool with its gorgeous views of the Valle di Chio will get you ready for the various restaurants of Cortona, Arezzo and Castiglion Fiorentino. You may even be staying here when we offer our guests dinner (twice a week), a very relaxed 5 course freshly prepared menu and some very interesting Tuscan wines.

Art and the budding artist, Tuscany is the perfect region. In Castiglion Fiorentino there are a number of Art classes which our guests can join or, if you prefer to use clay, one of Italy’s finest ceramicists provides lessons on either a group basis or one-to-one.

For those guests more interested in the culinary delights of Tuscany, there are restaurants galore. But if you prefer to take a day out to learn how to cook Tuscan style, then this can be arranged.

Wine plays an important part in the daily life of all Italians and Tuscany has some of its finest wines and wineries. We can arrange for you to take a tour of some of the most famous wine houses where you can not only see the method, but can taste the results!

Casa Portagioia is set in an old farm with Olive groves and typical Tuscan countryside of rolling hills and green vegetation. From here you can explore the local countryside on foot or by bikes (available on site). The main town is Castiglion Fiorentino - a medieval town full of history. There is a train station here with trains to Florence and Rome. There is easy access to the A1 Autostrade - about 22km

From here you can visit Cortona and Arezzo which are about 15 minutes away or, within an hours drive you are able to visit many Tuscan and Umbrian towns such as Florence, Siena, Assisi, the Chianti region, Montepulciano - to name but a few. There is a train station at Castiglion with trains to Rome and Florence - although faster express trains are available from Arezzo.
