Description of Holiday Guesthouse / B & B
Quinta do Vinagre is a family run guesthouse on a 30 hectare farm in the Alentejo. Guests can stay in our beautifully restored quinta (which can sleep up to 9 plus a disabled access room suitable for 2 people.
There are also camping options available for those of you who wish to sleep beneath the stars.
There is a pool on our farm and a lake five minutes down the road. There's good fishing in the lake, lovely for horseriding and kayaking or just relaxed strolls to watch the stunning sunsets, count the stars and see the local shepherds herd their sheep.
We also run an animal sanctuary on the estate. We have rescued ponies, horses, donkeys, a llama, chickens, a duck, dogs, an amazonian parrot, prairie dogs, budgies and an ever changing menagerie. Holiday makers are welcome to help out here, there's always somebody looking to be fed a carrot or would love to be cuddled and groomed.
We offer cookery holidays also and teach people not only about how to rustle something up in the kitchen, but also the importance of sustainable living, supporting local producers and suppliers and making the most of the seasons.
Our Quinta is based 25km from Evora, the UNESCO world heritage protected Roman city. You will find stunning examples of a well preserved Aqueduct and a temple to Diana/Augustus here.
The Alentejo offers a vast variety of activities for people of all ages, from all walks of life. You can be assured you will not be bored for a moment. However if you really want you can spend the day topping up your tan poolside sipping on freshly squeezed juices from fruits straight out of our orchard!
Golf Facilities
We are an hours drive from the best golf courses in the Algarve. We can arrange golf excursions at your request.
Horse Riding Facilities
For more competent horse riders we can arrange hunting holidays or intensive dressage lessons on beautiful Lusitano horses. There's also night based wild boar hunting on foot available from a very experienced local huntsman who will help you become really well informed on the local region, agricultural methods and lifestyle.
Beaches / Coast
We are fifty minutes drive from great surfing, sailing, fishing and diving on the atlantic coast. There's also whale watching available that can be organised with advance notice.
Special Interest
We offer horseriding, hunting, fishing, food&wine gourmet tours, walking/cultural excursions and cookery holidays. Music and art based holidays to follow soon. Please enquire if interested.
Disabled Access
We can arrange self contained flats that are easily wheelchair accessible at one of our riding centres. We also have a wheelchair accessible bedroom that sleeps two and bathroom downstairs in our Quinta.
Further Details
We are 2.5km from the nearest town, Viana do Alentejo. In Viana you have all local amenities, nice parks, a large supermarket, print/email/fax/phone shops, library, wine bars, restaurants, sports centres etc... Also three very beautiful old churches. We are about 2 hrs drive from Faro and approx one hour from Lisbon (depending on traffic). Good public transport services and plenty of rent a car options. Airport transfers can be arranged on request at an extra charge.

Just over an hour from Lisbon airport and two hours to Faro. Beja airport is a half hour away, Evora airport twenty minutes. Beja and Evora are small regional airports, you may need to contact teh airports directly for flight information. There are ferry ports at Setubul, Lisbon and Porto
