Description of Holiday Villa

The Villa is in the village of Figueira along the coast from Salema in an elevated position with views across the hills to the sea. There are two isolated beaches nearby. The property has four good size bedrooms, two family bathrooms, one other toilet with sink, large kitchen with all facilities which include washing m/c dishwasher etc. The lounge and Dining room open up to the pool area with larger than average pool and terrace with B.B.Q. area and outside bar.

The Villa is in a very quiet area and has magnificent views over Village and Sea. It is within walking distance of two secluded beaches. The nearest Village is Salema a small fishing village with many local bars and restaurants and of coarse a lovely beach. Outside you have private parking in own drive

The small village of SALEMA lies a dozen kilometers to the west of Lagos, beyond the villages of Luz and Burgau, and is perhaps one of the most unspoilt fishing villages on the Algarve. Narrow cobbled streets wind past fisherman's cottages, and you will find a quiet, friendly atmosphere in the local bars and restaurants. You may find you have to share the beach with the comings and goings of local fishing boats, yet its sheltered bay and sweep of fine sand have ample room for all. There is a camp site, and nearby is the golfing resort of Parque da Floresta.

A little larger than nearby Salema, Burgau is another picturesque old fishing village where the pace of life has changed little over the years. Fishermen still mend their nets and paint their boats on the slipway leading down to Burgau's beautiful sandy cove, and there are many fine restaurants and taverns. White-washed cottages, cobbled smugglers alleyways, brightly-painted fishing boats and fresh fish grilled on street barbeques are all features of this charming Algarve fishing village. Burgau also has a sports centre with swimming pool.

Golf Facilities

There are four golf courses within easy reach of the Villa and facilities for green bowling, tennis and archery nearby.
Parque da Floresta, Boavista and Penina (Resort Course) are among Portugal's finest courses.

The Algarve is considered one of Europe's most popular golfing destinations and every year its sunny delights entice even more golfers to come and see just why it's the talking point of traveling golfers all across Europe.

Portugal's climate may not be as hot through during the winter as in summer months, but temperatures will definitely hit the 20s, which is perfect for golfers.

The fairways are exposed to the sun and the cool Atlantic breeze, although you may well need a jacket or pullover in the evenings as it can get a little chilly. It's that kind of experience that makes this place so popular.
The Penina Championship course is considered the most brilliant project of Sir Henry Cotton, triple champion of the British Open who later became a golf architect.

Beaches / Coast

The Villa is within walking distance of two nearby beaches that are both isolated and secluded .

Special Interest

The Penina Championship Course has several bunkers, almost four hundred thousand trees, plenty of water with wide greens and a vast tee area, making this a real championship course.

The sequence of the holes is very original, for the last nine holes both begin and end with two Par 5. Therefore, the first half of the course is Par 35, while Par for the other nine holes is 38. A new lake has been created to protect hole 5's green and more water has been added around green 13, transforming it into a small island.

Two nine hole courses (now re-named the Resort Course and Academy Course) are the ideal complement to the Championship course.

Further Details

Traveling west along the coast road towards Sagres you can explore many uncrowded beaches, and within easy reach travel up the west coast with its rugged scenery and beaches. The nearest town east of Figueria is Lagos of which, in my opinion, has the most to offer, with its shops, restaurants bars and historic interests along the Algarve. Further to the east and traveling inland you can explore the Monchique mountains and maybe visit Silves, at onetime the capital of the Algarve.
