Description of Holiday Cottage
Alexander Cottage, 36 Seatown, Gardenstown, Banffshire, AB45 3YQ.
The cottage was built in the 1860's as a traditional fisherman's cottage. It now offers modern day comforts whilst retaining much of its character and charm. It is centrally heated by the solid-fuel stove. Logs, coal and electricity are included in the rental price. The cottage comprises of a dining kitchen, lounge, three bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen has a large table to accomodate up to 6 people. It has all the facilities you should need including a microwave, fridge and washing machine. There is ample crockery, cutlery and glassware and plenty of pots and pans. The wood burning stove in the lounge ensures that this room has a really homely feel. The bathroom with 3 piece suite is also on the ground floor. Upstairs are 3 delightful bedrooms all made up with fresh white bedlinen. There is a double room, a twin room with single futon bed and a single room. A travel cot and highchair are also available (please bring your own linen for cot). Children are very welcome and you may also bring one well behaved pet. The elevated garden/patio area provide a relaxed seating area where you can admire the sea view. You may even be lucky enough to catch sight of a dolphin in the bay. You can park you car at the harbour only a minutes walk away.Gardenstown is undoubtedly one of the prime seafront villages that lace the Moray Coast.Situated in Gamrie Bay, a site of special scientific interest and noted for it's seabird colonies, dolphins, ancient rocks, seaside plants and flowers. In fact there is a dolphin and whale rescue and research centre here.This is a region which until recently has remained largely undiscovered and yet has so much to offer.The village is the perfect place to unwind from the pressures of modern life whilst providing basic services such as shops a Post Office and a pub serving meals where children are welcome.
Golf Facilities
For the golf enthusiasts there are numerous courses nearby. Duff House Royal and Royal Tarlair are the best courses in the area. Nearby Aberdeen also has a number of excellent courses.
Beaches / Coast
The cottage enjoys sea views from the garden and is only 30 metres from the sea wall. A low tide will give access to the beach and marine life in the rockpools whilst a high tide will bring waves crashing over the breakwater to splash the gable ends of the waterfront cottages. Nothing beats strolling around the harbour and rock pools enjoying the peace and there is a sandy beach on your doorstep. During the summer months dolphins and whales are frquent visitors to the bay and the dolphin and whale rescue centre is located in the village.
If you are into scuba diving then there are plenty dive sites in the area with quite a few wrecks and caves to explore.
You can fish from the harbour wall or try and land a salmon or trout on the River Deveron.
Bird watching is also popular in the area with nearby Troup Head host to cormorants, puffins and gannets.
In the summer you can take a boat trip out to spot the dolphins and whales which is a truly memorable site.

A bus from Aberdeen to Banff (6 miles from cottage) runs 6 times a day. To fully appreciate what the area has to offer use of a car is recommended.
