Description of Holiday Apartment
Our apartment is in the prestigious Marina de la Duquesa complex. It has two bedrooms, one double and one twin, two bathrooms, one with a bath and bidet and one with a shower. The kitchen has everything you could need including a dishwasher and microwave. It has its own breakfast area off to the side and a separate laundry with a washing machine. The large sitting/dining room has a satellite television including BBC, a DVD player and video with a video library for quiet nights in and a stereo.
The apartment is fully air-conditioned with marble floors throughout. It is on the first floor with views from the balcony to the blue flag sandy beach, the swimming pools and the gardens. The complex is right on the beach with four pools altogether, a sauna and small gym set in beautiful tropical gardens. There is a designated secure parking space beneath the block and a lift.
The prestigious Marina de la Duquesa complex is in a quiet area on the seafront yet it is only a minute from the marina and port area of Puerto de la Duquesa. There you will find numerous shops and bars. There are some great restaurants with cuisine from France, Italy, Thailand, China, India, Scandinavia, Great Britain and Ireland as well as Spain. There’s a shop to rent DVDs, fishing gear and bikes. It is about one hour's drive from Malaga airport and 30 minutes from Gibraltar.
The marina has more than 300 berths. There are no high rise hotels here to spoil the view. The blue flag beach stretches as far as Sabanillas and on to Estepona. On the other side, it winds around the coast to Sotogrande. The waterfront is closed to traffic making it very safe for children. In the summer there is a street market. There is a Sunday market at Sabanillas.
La Duquesa is well situated on the road network, 10km south west of Estepona on the N340 highway. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit in Andalucia. Granada is about 2 hours drive away and Seville 2.5 hours.
Golf Facilities
Duquesa's golf and country club is a championship 18 hole Robert Trent Jones course. It is 400m away and overlooks the Mediterranean with views out to North Africa and Gibraltar. Green fees start at €40.
There are more than 60 golf courses along the 'Costa del Golf.' Valderrama, Sotogrande, Los Arqueros and Monte Mayor are a few of the many recommended Golf courses within a 30 minute drive.
Beaches / Coast
Estepona is a pleasant town with shops and restaurants and a lovely promenade. A market on a Wednesday has good local produce. In the hills is Selwo safari park and Prado World, a water and theme park.
Benalmadena is good for family attractions. Mijas aqua park is a waterpark with slides, rapid etc. Sea Life centre in Puerto Deportivo has exotic Mediterranean underwater life including sharks, octopuses and eels. Marbella is a chic beachside retreat for the wealthy international crowd. Puerto Banus is recommended for people watching at the yacht in the harbour and shopping.
Tarifa, along the coast beyond Gibraltar is famous for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing and great for whale and dolphin watching tours.
Ceuta and Tangier
Ceuta is a part of Spain in Africa and Tangier is in Morocco. There are cheap and regular ferry links from Algeciras, Tarifa, Gibraltar, Almería and Málaga. You can take a tour from Spain but it's fun to do on your own.
